How to install Forge for Minecraft
Forge with no installer and no manual copying: pick a game version and the launcher installs Forge itself. Step by step.
Forge is the oldest mod loader. The classic way is to download an installer, run it and pick a profile. In TCLauncher it's one step.
Step by step
- Create a new build in the Instances tab.
- Pick the game version, for example 1.20.1 or 1.12.2.
- Choose Forge as the loader and its recommended version.
- Click Create — the launcher downloads Forge, libraries and the right Java.
Then mods
Forge mods are installed in the Mods tab: the catalog only shows mods that fit your game version and Forge. Dependencies are added automatically.
Forge or NeoForge?
For older versions (1.7.10–1.20.1) — Forge. For newer ones many mods are released for NeoForge. More in the guide “Forge, Fabric, NeoForge or Quilt”.

Do I need to install Java separately?
No, the launcher downloads the right Java for the game and Forge itself.
Why won't a mod run on Forge?
Usually it's made for another game version or loader. The launcher's catalog marks such mods.
