How to install a modpack in Minecraft
A modpack in a minute: from the Modrinth catalog or a .mrpack file. A separate build, mods and configs — all installed for you.
A modpack is a ready-made build: game version, loader, dozens or hundreds of mods and their configs. Installing it by hand is slow and error-prone, so the launcher does it for you.
From the catalog
- Open the Mods tab and switch to Modpacks.
- Find the one you want — the catalog shows the description, game version and loader.
- Click Install. The launcher creates a separate build with the loader and every mod.
From a .mrpack file
If someone sent you a modpack as a file, choose install from file in the Mods tab and pick the .mrpack. Same result — a new build that doesn't touch the others.
After installing
- Check memory in the build settings: big modpacks need 6–8 GB.
- The first launch takes longer — the game builds its caches.
- Don't update single mods of a modpack without a reason: the authors picked the versions together.
Download TCLauncher — it's free.
FAQ
Where do I get modpacks?
From the Modrinth catalog right in the Mods tab, or as a .mrpack file from friends or a server owner.
Will a modpack break my other builds?
No, every modpack is installed as its own build with its own mods and worlds folder.
