How to install a texture pack in Minecraft
Resource packs and texture packs: where to get them, where to put them and how to enable them. Plus why a pack may not show up.
A resource pack (texture pack) changes how blocks, items, the interface and sounds look. No mods are needed — packs work even in vanilla.
From the catalog
In the Mods tab switch to resource packs, find the one you want and install it into the build — the file goes where it belongs.
From a file
- Open the build folder (the folder button next to the build).
- Put the pack zip into
resourcepacks. Don't unzip it. - In game: Options → Resource Packs, move the pack to the right.
The pack is missing or red
- It's made for another game version — it often still works, the game just warns.
- The zip has a folder inside —
pack.mcmetamust be in the archive root.
Download TCLauncher — it's free.
FAQ
Do texture packs need mods?
No. Only packs with connected textures or special effects need a mod like Continuity.
A 512x pack lags — what do I do?
High-resolution packs load the GPU heavily. Try the 32x or 64x version.
