How to give op and turn on the whitelist

The op and whitelist commands for your own Minecraft server: how to give admin rights and let only friends in.

It's best to close your server to random players and give yourself admin rights. Everything is done with commands in the server console.

Admin rights

In the server console (in TCLauncher — the Server tab) run:

op YourName

To take rights away: deop Name.

Whitelist

  1. Turn it on: whitelist on.
  2. Add friends: whitelist add Name.
  3. See the list: whitelist list.

Useful commands

  • kick Name — kick.
  • ban Name / pardon Name — ban and unban.
  • gamemode creative Name — creative mode.
  • save-all — save the world now.

Download TCLauncher — it's free.

FAQ

Why doesn't the whitelist let in a friend with the right name?

If the server is online-mode=false and the friend was added while it was licensed (or vice versa), the UUIDs differ. Remove and add them again.

Where do I type a command if I'm not in game?

In the server console — in the launcher it's in the Server tab.
